Hawaii Island to host 2024 Native Hawaiian Convention

The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement has opened registration for its 2024 Native Hawaiian Convention, which will be held from Sept. 17-19 at Hilton Waikoloa Village on Hawaii Island.

With the theme, “Experience Hawaii Island,” this year’s convention will feature the cultural stories and communities of Moku o Keawe.

“We are excited to offer the residents of Hawaii Island the chance to take part in the Native Hawaiian Convention, the premier gathering of Native Hawaiians,” said Kuhio Lewis, CEO of CNHA, in a press release. With its deep historical roots, Hawaii Island serves as a reminder of our past, guiding us as we move towards the future.”

The annual convention brings together members of the community from ‘opio (young) to kupuna (elders), cultural practitioners, leaders, educators, entertainers, artists, entrepreneurs, housing providers, lawmakers and more.

This three-day event will feature discussions and workshops about cultural perpetuation, housing, fashion, tourism, education and self-determination. This year’s highlights include:

— Featured keynote by local and national leaders;

— Panel discussion on housing, economic development, culture and the future of Hawaii;

— Breakout sessions with special guest speakers;

— Cultural and community-based sessions;

— Hawaii Island Designers’ Fashion, Food & Wine Show;

— Hawaii Island Exclusive Huaka‘i (day trip); and

— More than 100 locally owned vendors hosted by The Makeke.

The registration fee for CNHA members is $125 and $225 for non-CNHA members/general public.
